14/03/21 -- Walkham Valley,Tors & Stone Rows

This is a fairly easy approx 6 mile walk and is level for most of the route. The walk starts by the River Walkham and heads south along a wide track towards Davytown providing great views of Vixen Tor and Pew Tor across the valley. After a couple of miles, we will head up on to the moorland to join the disused railway line which tracks around Ingra Tor, Swell Tor Quarry and Kings Tor. All of this area is flat walking and provides great views as long as the weather is kind. Part of the walk will be on tarmacked roads. On the return route, we will pass by the ancient bronze age stone rows at Merrivale. There will be a few downhills and uphills along the way. The terrain will be muddy in places. Some of the paths are uneven and may be slippery if wet. There is a stream to cross via stones and a wooded area by Hucken Tor which has a touch of mystery about it (habitat of pixies and the like!).
